Booze Up Your Coffee Game – Espresso Martini

This is a great cocktail to get your night started. Or get you through the night if it’s going to be a long one. With two espresso shots in each one, they will do the job.

I have to admit I am typically not a fan of any cocktail with milk. This (and just a few other drinks) happen to be the exception. You can absolutely omit the cream in this and it is still delicious.

I also adhered to the camp that only a martini could be a martini. But here I am, breaking all my own rules.

Start with a good quality vanilla vodka- 2 shots or 3 ounces. Pour into a shaker half filled with ice. To that, add the same amount of espresso.

Espresso maker

Espresso maker?

If you don’t have an espresso maker… get one. You can make a quality espresso in an inexpensive stovetop maker like the Bialetti – Moka Express. I regularly see them at Homegoods even cheaper. Have no fear; if you do not have espresso, robust coffee will do.

Next, add 1 and 1/2 ounces of Kahlua. This increases the coffee flavor since it is made with… coffee and rum.

The last ingredient is just a touch of heavy cream. 3/4 to 1 ounce is all you need to get a creamy, frothy finish. Feel free to use your favorite non dairy option as well.

Put all ingredients in a shaker and shake shake shake.

Pour into a martini glass and serve just like that, or if you want to be extra fancy, sprinkle with grated chocolate or dust with cocoa powder. You can also set a few whole coffee beans on top.

You can also mix up a small batch of these to make 2-3 at time. Just double or triple the ingredients and store in the fridge. When you are ready to serve, pour about 8 ounces, or 1 cup at a time in your shaker for each martini.

This makes a great dessert cocktail if you’d rather drink your sweets than eat them. Sub ice cream for the heavy cream and serve affogato.

Enjoy this sweet boozy treat anytime you a pick me up is in order and you want to break some rules.
